Issue 152, Medieval Mythbusting
While we can’t rectify all the egregious things that have been said about the Middle Ages in one issue, we have tried to tackle some of them.
We’ve busted a few of the well-known, oft-repeated myths – such as medieval bathing and table manners. We’ve also made a concerted effort to quash the Templar rumor mill and will continue to do so in the future with a series on the Order in upcoming issues. We’ve also included a few lesser-known myths, such as the mystery behind the tritone and its devilish musical connections, a forged church donation, and how the Byzantine Empire came by its negative reputation in the West. Lastly, for our non-theme feature, we speak to the curators of a new exhibition on the patronage of the Romanian prince Neagoe Basarab V of Wallachia. We hope that you enjoy our final issue of the summer.
